Octo-Scarf

I once saw a scarf on Esty that looked like tentacles. I looked and looked and couldn't find the one I saw again. So I made one. I wish I could find my inspiration for you, though.

Cephalopods are some of my favorite creatures. I especially like their appendages and color-changing skin.

I just knitted a fairly long scarf out of wool yarn with tapered ends and then added crocheted circles to look like suckers.

I was not so smart, and made my scarf in stocking knit. This meant that it rolled up every time I tried to put it over my ears. Lame. So I fixed it somewhat by adding a layer of super-soft, purple minky. Now it is twice as warm when I wrap it around my ears!

Spring is right around the corner, and as much as I love my scarf, I'm getting a little sick of skidding on ice... I still love the snow, though!

UPDATE:
I found my inspiration picture!

Daisy Everything

I love daisy print and it is popping up everywhere again. Maybe it has to do with the fact that Coachella is around the corner. Oh yeah, spring is coming up. That could have something to do with it too lol.

I so wish that I could go to Coachella this year but it's sold out. I guess that's a good thing cuz otherwise I'd be tempted to spend a ton of cash. But since I'm not going maybe I can score a few of these:

Daisy Everything

Instead of actually going to the festival this year I'm gonna listen to the Spotify playlist and jam out at home. Maybe I'll add some face paint just for fun :P.

Atomic Blast

Horrible destruction can be terrifyingly beautiful. I have found myself entranced with these haunting clouds of radioactivity. I don't know why, but ever since I was in third-grade and read Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes I have been drawn to the awesome power of rapidly splitting atoms. It is amazing that humans can essentially create a mini-sun, a life-giving force, and apply it to war and mass-destruction. Tells you something about the human condition, I think.

Anyway, here is some fashion depicting this crazy weaponry:

The coloration of these tunics is striking. I like how it evokes the graininess of an 1940s photograph.

Get these nail-decals in atomic orange to go with your tunic of atmospheric radioactivity.

These earrings are quite controversial. They are replicas of the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They used to sell them at testing site museums, but people got angry claiming that the loss of life should not be commemorated by a fashion accessory. I personally don't see much difference between these bombs and having AK47 or battleship earrings... My morbid self wishes I could find a pair.

If your fashion sense is a little less feminine, here is a t-shirt and belt buckle to satiate your need for a nuclear winter:

Remember to cover your head and stay in your bunker until the radioactivity has dissipated.

Aloha Wear I Actually Like

When you come to Hawai'i you see an awful lot of aloha wear, or Hawaiian print clothing featuring things like hibiscus, sea creatures or even surf boards. Some of it is actually kind of nice while others are just awful.

Lately it seems that hibiscus print has gotten trendier and trendier outside of Hawai'i. I tripped out when I saw this silk Boutique blouse from Topshop. It's kind of ugly, but I love it so much when paired with all these goodies.

Aloha Wear I Like

I really think that I need these sunglasses and shoes, as usual. I also love that the chain bangle is encapsulated in resin. No tarnishing!

The lipstick is MAC Saint Germain. It is such a pretty bubblegum pink/ purple color. Urban Decay's Lovechild would also be nice and it's not quite as white based if you try to avoid that. I love white based lip colors but they can look a bit chalky sometimes.

Although I just blogged about Donna Karan's older Spring 2014 collection a few days ago, I couldn't resist myself from posting my favorites from this newly released collection today. Apparently this is her 30th anniversary collection. Her experience is definitely paying off!

You can view the rest of the collection on the designer's web page here: http://www.donnakaran.com/experience/brand/on-the-runway/fall-2014/collection/#p=1

Past NYFW Crush... Donna Karan Spring 2014

Donna Karan Spring 2014

Donna Karan Spring 2014

Dona Karan Spring 2014

While looking for news on the new NYFW looks I came across the Donna Karan from September (Spring 2014). I love the peaceful, confident, bohemian vibe that this collection has. Everything seems really comfortable, yet put together and fabulous.

I love the tribal trend and the patterns that are featured here are beautiful. They are interesting but not loud at all since most of the patterns stick to black and the base color. This makes them really wearable and neutral.

You can view the entire collection on the designer's website here: http://www.donnakaran.com/experience/brand/on-the-runway/spring-2014/collection/#p=1

My Favorite Spaghetti

I love noodles of all kinds. I think this recipe works best with spaghetti, but you could try rotini or orzo or what ever your favorite shape is. I don't think I'd try it with udon or ramen, though.

I've been trying to be healthier lately, so I found some pretty awesome whole-wheat noodles. I've been eating them for about a year and I don't even notice that they are whole-wheat anymore. I think the brand is called Nature's Promise.

Ingredients:

1 tomato, diced
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 hot pepper, chopped
Some basil leaves, slivered
Whole-wheat spaghetti, about the size of a quarter
A bunch of freshly grated parmesan cheese
A little less than a tablespoon of olive oil
Salt
Pepper

Instructions:

Boil the pasta al dente and put all the ingredients on top.

This will feed one hungry, gluttonous person (ie. me) or two people eating light.

PS. Thanks for the awesome mushroom plate, KM. Even if you can't see them in the pic the brown edging looks cool.

Dream shoe sketch #1

I have really random dreams. Oftentimes I only remember most of them within 1/2 hour of waking up unless I write them down, except for the shoes. I can almost always remember what my dream shoes look like very well. I've always been a shoe person :P.

Here is my attempt to recreate one of the designs from my dreams:

Original Sketch
Photoshop coloring
Since I don't have the right colored pencils

The light blue part of the foot holder is supposed to be clear material like these

In my dream there was more of a white and tan Aztec design on the top of the band where the gem is in these pics. I really do not know much about Aztec design and I really like gems. A square cut Tiger's eye cabochon like this would be choice. I'd like to study up on Aztec textile design. I need some more practice, it's so intricate.

The brown part of the sole and heel is supposed to be made of stacked material like these. I have a pair of heels with this material at the bottom and I love them.

Slip on shoes are pretty much my favorite kind of shoes. Where I live people wear slippers aka flip flops aka slippahs all the time. I like to wear things that I can easily throw on and off too but it feels nice to wear something more fancy.
