Onion-y Super Bowl

What is more of a super bowl than a bowl full of caramelized onions? Well, maybe the Super Bowl, but this French Onion dip is pretty super. Okay, I just felt dumb writing that...

Anyway, it tastes good and isn't too terribly difficult, so without further delay here is the recipe:

I broke this down into the smallest unit I could to make test batches. (Yes I am crazy. I am going over to the not-in-laws this year, so it has to be good.) So, you should probably triple or quadruple this recipe to get a good amount. It only makes about half a cup, depending on the size of your onion.

1 large Onion
1 generous tablespoon Butter
1 tablespoon Mayonnaise
3 tablespoons Sour Cream (you can totally sub with yogurt - I tried and you can't really tell)
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
a dash of Worcestershire
a little bit of lemon juice
a generous amount of salt and pepper

Slice the onion into about quarter inch (half a centimeter) slices. Keep them as even as you can. This will save you from the uneven cooking that plagued me.

Caramelize onions. I'm probably not the best at explaining this, but the only thing that really matters is that you have to keep stirring. Saute the onions on high for a couple of minutes in the butter. When they start to turn translucent turn down the heat. After about 15 minutes they should be golden. Keep going for another 5. They should be brown and smell like French onion soup. If not, keep cooking until they do. If most are done, but some are not, just take out the under-cooked ones. It's not worth it to burn the rest.

Let the onions cool. If you want it a little chunky like mine, just chop them fine. If you want it smooth blend those suckers.

Mix in all the other ingredients. Chill in fridge. Overnight works best.

You can serve this with bread, potato chips, veggies, beef - pretty much anything. I ate some on pizza today and it was pretty good.

Have Fun!

You Are Gold - new original acoustic

Every day that we get to spend with those that we love is truly a gift. It is far too easy to get caught up in work, chores, arguments, the quest for success and money... When you lose someone you love you realize that every moment matters. Every little word, every second becomes a treasure.

You Are Gold
- me

I can’t speak
When you flew away
It made me weak
If I had one more hug
One more smile
One more story
It would never be enough
You were always there
Always there
You taught me how to really care
Really care
Now I feel so unaware
I just stop and stare
Way too much
Way too much

You are gold
You gave me life
I’ll never understand
How you always made things right
And Mama she once told us all that life is but a vapor
But I’m not ready to let you go fade into the ether
You are gold

Aaah Tragedy
Why’d you gotta bite me
Again
And Again
I fear I’m always broken
Ah ahh
Sweet release
I hope you found some peace
Could you share some with me
Please
You are gold

You are gold
You gave me life
I’ll never understand
How you always made things right
And Mama she once told us all that life is but a vapor
But I’m not ready to let you go and fade into the ether
You are gold

Blue Roses

I have a thing for blue roses. I don't know what it is. Maybe it is because it is so unnatural. I looked it up once when I was bored and I came across this crazy blog about the Morrissey - Blue Roses connection. It turns out there's some sort of conspiracy. If you want a good dose of WTF, you should totally google it. Maybe I just don't understand, not being a Morrissey fan myself.

I found the pendent above in a little shop in China Town. It was only like $2. It's the only blue rose thing I own at the moment, but I think I may have to rectify that soon,

This is a Blue Rose Necklace I found on Amazon that is comparable to mine but is $20! I guess it does have the little extra leaves that are pretty cool.

This Blue Rose Dress is pretty neat. I totally need a blue rose dress to go with my necklace. I really like this one, but it is pretty expensive and from the UK.

I'm thinking about making my own blue rose dress. I really like the Blue Rose Chiffon on the black background. But I mean, who can say no to Blue Cabbage Cotton? Not me! I may have a cabbage rose dress soon... just need to decide if I can really pull off a cabbage dress... hmmm. I think the cabbages go better with my necklace, too.

As a species we have been tattooing ourselves for ages but these tattoos are unlike any I've ever seen. Sasha Unisex's elegant style has made her an International star and rightfully so. The Russian artist combines colors to form shapes that create breath taking works of art in every tattoo. The results are just stunning. Here are some of my favorites:

Chazuke! Easy Breakfast

Chazuke is basically green tea poured over rice. It is the easiest breakfast ever, especially if you have leftover rice in the rice cooker. It might seem weird, but I think it is pretty good. Only one dish for both breakfast and wake up juice - hooray for less dishes!

There are these awesome little packets you can get at the Asian grocery that have dashi (soup stock) powder, nori (seaweed) flakes, and little rice crackers. Just add rice and your done. You can even just use water instead of green tea.

If you're feeling ambitious and awake you can fry up some fish to put on top or even fry the rice-ball itself. No need, though. It is a nice winter breakfast on its own.

New Song - Say a Little Prayer for Me

I prefer not to affiliate myself with any particular religion but I do believe in prayer. I believe that prayer is bigger than religion. Throughout history countless religions and people have used the power of prayer and meditation to make a difference.

Although we exist as individuals I believe that that prayer can connect us and lift us up. This has been on my mind a lot lately since my family really needs it now!

Sure there may be greater forces but in my experience there are also times when it feels like prayer is the only thing that actually works. One time when I was little I stopped and prayed for a pencil and when I walked back to the place where I prayed, there was a pencil! Surely it was someone else's but it was truly what I needed to complete my paper route. I will never forget that special little moment :).

Wishing you all good health and happiness in this new year!

Tiny Everyday Earrings

Even though my ears have been pierced for over 15 years and I tried to stretch them in high-school my holes try to close on me if I don't wear earrings for a bit. I like my everyday earrings small so I can sleep in them. The fish skeleton earrings my man got me are my favorite. I love dead fish jewelry! They have tarnished a bit, proving that they really are silver. I find that super cool for such a low price.

You can get these fishy studs here.

I didn't know my ears had so much hair on them!

These are no longer in stock, but I would trust other products from this company/seller. The black paint has worn off a little on the back. And one popped off in bed once and I didn't find it for a few months. I'm glad to have it back, though, because these studs are so comfy.

I also found these earrings super cool. I'm glad studs come in more styles than just little balls. Check out these nifty shapes of silver earrings.
Beetles! I love all insects in the Coleptera family... except when they are keeping me awake bouncing off my ceiling. They are found here.

These are called mice, but I know they are really rats. Rats are the best. I really miss my pet rats.

Tentacles are the coolest appendages. I also enjoy the spirals. Brings a bit of class to these studs.

Have you ever seen a UFO? I have not. But I do want to believe! These elusive sky shapes are found here.
