Wolves, Unicorns and Baby Skunks! Ridiculously Cute shirts by The Mountain

Back to school shopping season is upon us. Time for comfy/cool T-shirts! I have purchased tees for my kiddos and myself from a ton of different vendors over the years. The Mountain is one company that I keep coming back to.

The Mountain tees are built to last a generation and they cater to nerdy animal lovers like myself. Perfect for Portlanders! Whether you are a student, a parent or someone else these shirts are sure to leave a smile on your face as they wrap you in coziness.

A picture says a thousand words so I am sure you all currently understand how awestruck I am by the Yin Yang Wolves Hoodie. So comfy, so beautiful, so fuzzy looking... I just might cry.

Behold the stunning Last Unicorn T shirt. Modeled by a man, it is clear that this unisex shirt looks great on absolutely everyone. The angelic unicorn looks breathtaking hovering above the jewel toned background. This may be my favorite.

This beauty is a kid's shirt but I simply couldn't resist adding it as an option for myself lol. After all, an XL in kids has the same width as a men's small. The length is smaller but that is actually a benefit for the short torsoed people of the world like myself. Plus the kid's shirts are cheaper lol.

Every boy needs a gorilla shirt. Just look at the grand ape's expression. He looks like a boss that is hard to please. I bet he's thinking, "I am not amused human, but I am also bored. Proceed."

Have a different favorite t-shirt brand? Please share it with me. Ts are life. Uniqlo is still my fave but The Mountain is a close second.

Classic Digital Watches ft. Casio, Timex and Neff

I can't stand analogue watches. I can read them, promise! I just think that it takes way more time to figure out the actual time than it does to just look at a digital watch. I'm actually good with numbers but I am directionally challenged, and a touch dyslexic, so clocks just aren't my strong suit.

Also analogue watches are often not as waterproof or sturdy. I am not the type to diligently take off my watch off before I jump in the water, go for a hike or do the dishes. Delicate things are not going to survive on my wrist.

The problem with this is that analog watches are so much prettier than digital watches. Most digital watches are clunky, hideous or they scream "I shop at Walmart!!!". Nothing against the last by the way, you can probably find some of these there :P. Classic Casio and Timex watches are unisex, which means they are smaller and they come in all sorts of colors. Yasssss!

Colorful Casios

These Casios are currently only available in the UK. I have the mustard and turquoise. Totally wish that these were carried in the US because they rock, and I don't like to pay shipping. At least they are unique!

Neff Watches

I haven't tried this brand but these are totally rocking. They remind me of M!

Timex Collection

Timex's indiglo function is boss. I wish they carried more pastels though.

Casios

This lot is perfect if you are looking for something a bit more presentable. I am waiting for the last to come in the mail. It's reviews aren't the best but I love the color combo. It seems that some people find the white numbers to be hard to read in bright light. Hoping this is not a deal for me.

I really wish there was a classier line of digital watches. I'd totally drop $200 for an elegant, waterproof, indestructible, adorable digital watch. Until then these are totally great. Since they aren't too expensive I have a few different types to go with my mood. I've been feeling turquoise lately apparently.

Happy summer!

Joe Boxer's Awesome Prints

Joe Boxer always has super cool prints featuring skulls, eyeballs, dinosaurs, and plenty more of my favorite things. The quality is not bad for box store stuff, too. I've had a pair of their sleep pants for over 5 years and they have yet to develop any holes, which is great because they are inexpensive. The best patterns are always in the little boy's section, unfortunately. They totally need to make grownup stuff with the cool little boy designs. Who can deny a print featuring pizza and flying saucers?

Joe Boxer is only sold at K-Mart and Sears. The problem with that is that both of their websites suck. The sites are not fun to navigate and say things are in stock when they are not. The K-Mart near me closed, so I have little choice but to go online. I was super disappointed that I couldn't buy my favorite designs.

Ms Frizzle Dresses

Beetles
I was browsing on Amazon and came across a store called Cowcow selling printed dresses. I soon realized they had prints of most of my favorite things! The drawings are well done and there's none of that weird branding crap that steers me away from similar clothes.

Weather
A bunch of the prints even come in different colors. The reviews describe the fabric as light and synthetic. They appear to be great, whimsical summer dresses - I just can't decide which one I want. Most of the dresses seem to be in the $16-$20 range, which is quite reasonable. The store also sells tops, leggings, swimsuits, and other items with the same nifty prints.

Dinosaurs
You should search Cowcow plus what ever design you can think of. They have hundreds of prints. There's normal stuff like flowers and geometrics, but they also have a ton of animal and food prints. They have bees, chickens, pandas, unicorns, cheese, sushi, macarons and so many others... If you want something gothic, just add "Halloween" to your search terms.  There is even a design featuring anal beads in the most discreet way. I'll let you find that one on your own.

We are Amazon affiliates. Any purchase you make after clicking on a link to Amazon helps support this blog. Thanks!

Trump the Trump

With all of the Trump  controversy out there I thought I would be topical for once and get in on the action. Ivanka Trump has a clothing line (and strangely, a little girl's shoe line) and some of it is pretty cool.

Dress 1 and Dress 2

She has not one, but two Wednesday Addams dresses. Is Ivanka Trump a secret goth?

Trippy

She has this super tripped out dress. Look at the faces in the zoom. Crazy! Someone has been taking acid.

Red

A dress that looks like it was made from a brocade curtain in the Wild West.

Crop

And I don't know what she was thinking with this one, but a dry-clean only crop top. Who dry-cleans their crop tops?

And I will end with this meme that has been generously donated by my man.

Jean Skirts

Express
I have been diggin' denim skirts lately. I'm usually not one for short skirts, but I have learned to wear yoga shorts or leggings under them so I don't feel exposed and embarrassed.
My favorite style is the classic jean cut off. I think I need to make one out of an old pair of jeans.

Aliexpress
The only other kind of short skirt I really wear is pleated, so this combines the two. I really like this one -I think the detailing near the bottom is a nice touch.

Everybody's Buying Vintage
I'm not really one for ruffles, but this high-waisted, tiered skirt has something to it. I'm not sure if it would work with anything but a crop top, so it might not be for me.

Holographic Rainbow

Etsy
The spring rains are on their way and it's time to start inspecting your old rain-coat for holes. I came across this magical, glam mac while thinking of getting a new jacket. Just look at those iridescent spirals! It was already sold, so I had to keep looking for a coat of magic.

Patternity
I also found this one on an inspiration site.  I have no idea how to make a raincoat without leaky seams, let alone where to find fabric that looks like dragon wings.

MissGuided
This is the only thing close that I could find for sale. I don't think it is quite as fantastical as the other two. I will have to keep looking.
Do you know of any awesome holographic clothes?

The Most Iconic Shoes of All Time by Walsh Brothers Shoes

Some shoes just make the whole outfit memorable. This infographic by Walsh Brothers Shoes features famous footwear for every look.

http://www.walshbrothersshoes.ie/

When I was younger I got to see a pair of Dorothy's slippers at the Smithsonian Museum in DC. I think there are three original pairs on display around the US but apparently one pair was stolen from a Minnesota museum in 2005. It was seriously one of the highlights of my trip, I will never forget it! I was standing there staring at them for so long that someone needed to pull me away haha. So glad that they are featured in this infographic.

If I had to add a signature shoe of my own it would totally be fringe moccasin boots. I wear my Minnetonkas as often as I can! I even wore a tall black pair to my senior prom. They are so easy to dance in. Pretty sure that they wouldn't be nightclub approved but I'm totally wearing them to my next rock concert.

My Disney Bounding

I went to Disneyland recently for the first time ever. I was obsessing over what to pack when I found out about Disney Bounding. Disney Bounding, if you don't know, is dressing like a character or element of a Disney creation without doing a full-on costume.

One of my favorite Disney songs is Pink Elephants on Parade. I had been wanting to make my pink elephant plushie into a purse for a long time, so this was the perfect excuse to rip out his stuffing and replace it with my wallet and phone. At some point I will probably post a tutorial on how to make a stuffed animal into a purse.

I put on my grey hoodie - because elephants, obviously, and my black dress because most of the song's animation is over a black background. I also wore my pink and grey stockings to try to up the trippiness factor.

I found it to be a happy coincidence that my shirt and my bag matched the colors on the Tomorrowland sign, but that wasn't my initial plan.  My favorite Disney movie is The Black Cauldron, and while my favorite character is Gurgi, I don't really own that many white clothes. I decided to try and do a Horned King. I put my hair in two buns to emulate his horns and wore a shit the color of his robes. My flannel also has little stripes of maroon, too.

I made the broach that the Horned King wears out of a safety-pin and some sculpy. This was probably unnecessary, but it turned out cool.

I had a great time - Splash Mountain was the best!

Seek the Realms of the Great Beyond

I know I am always late on the trends. It's part of my style, I guess. At least I am not so far behind this time that all the stuff is out of stock! Anyway, I love the idea of having this game board on everything. I want a night-table with an Ouija design on top, so my cup can leave me water-ringed messages in the night.
Dark Side Clothing
Think of the party games you could play with this hoodie. You could do light as a feather, stiff as a board at the same time as planchette-ing.

Etsy
Throw pillows confuse me (I always think of the scene from Coupling), but this one has a use besides just taking up couch space - summoning beings from unknown realms. Sounds like an okay reason to succumb to these strange, evil, squares of fluff.

Rebels Market
Just wear a planchette necklace with this bikini and you are ready for some interesting times with the great beyond, not that I recommend calling in the incubi and succubi.

Secret Pocket T Shirts

I have debated for a long time about posting these shirts. I didn't want anyone to know the secret held against my breast. But now, I am throwing caution to the wind and saying "what the hell?"  I mean, I've never put anything other than a little cash in the secret pocket, so it's not like I'm giving away anything big.

This the first one I made. I had a problem with two of my favorite t-shirts. The grey shirt developed a hole in the front. My boyfriend bequeathed me the green Kurt Cobain one, but it was made out some horrible overheating, sweat inducing fabric.

I did a messy cross-stitch around the edge, except for one corner where I just did the stitching on the Cobain fabric leaving a small opening for the pocket. I could've just left it with the hole in the back, but I didn't want it to get bigger and it would be pretty awkward getting anything out of it.

I love pockets so much, especially secret ones, so I made another one. This one I did with a fancy stitch on my sewing machine and started with the secret opening so I wouldn't have to struggle getting the fabric under the machine. I loved the color of the main shirt, but it had a graphic on it that I wasn't fond of. My Tank Girl shirt was always a little tight across the chest and as much as I loved to wear it, it just wasn't comfortable. You can see this shirt before I destroyed it here.

DIY Dump Truck "UGGs"

How can you convince a toddler to wear boots? Put dump trucks on them!

My youngest is notoriously picky when it comes to footwear. He would wear his crocs all year if I let him! He has really wide feet which doesn't help the selection process.

After some searching I found some gender neutral "UGGs" at Walmart. They are marketed for girls but they run large and have no sparkles or frills on them. He really didn't want to try them on. Then I took him to the craft section and let him choose some patches for them. Instant win!

Materials Needed:
  • Boots
  • 2 patches
  • Synthetic Fabric Glue (E6000)
    • Or needle and thread
  • Glue Applicator
    • Toothpicks work well
  • Scotchguard (optional but recommended)
Process:
  1. Ensure that the boots are clean and dry.
  2. Decide where you want to place the patches. Lightly mark with pencil.
  3. Apply glue to the back of the patch.
  4. Add pressure to the patch and hold until the glue is set.
  5. Repeat with the other shoe.
  6. Spray shoe with stain repellant. Be sure to cover the patch.
A Few Things I've Learned:
  • Do not iron the patches on. The synthetic materials will shrivel. It's ugly.
  • Liquid Stitches glue does not fuse synthetics to patches. Stick to E6000 or Quick Grip.
  • It may take a few touch ups to get all of the edges secured.
    • Next time I may just sew them on.
These EMU shark boots are adorable if you'd prefer to stray away from Walmart shoes.

Happy Holidays!

The Black T-Shirt Dress

Forever 21
$15
I am in the mood for some really soft and comfortable clothes that don't look too sloppy.  This one seems a little to short to be truly comfortable, but it is really inexpensive.

Asos
40$
It's like a sleep shirt you can wear outside without the side effect of embarrassment. I am liking that this has a little bit longer sleeves.

Dolllskill
 34$
While I do prefer the classic simplicity of the other two, this one makes me smile. I am drawn to it like a poor bovine to a an alien tractor beam. There are a couple other prints that are pretty cool, too.

I have an old, black bed-sheet that I am going to use to make some of these. It is a nice modal jersey. So soft. I will have to work around a couple holes, though.

Pizza Rat Shirt

My man got me a ton a t-shirts for my birthday, including this pizza one. I decided to add some rats, mostly because I love them, but also because of Pizza Rat.

In case you missed it, pizza rat went viral a few months ago. So cute!

I drew some rats.

Then I traced them onto my shirt.

I got some fabric medium so mix with my acrylic paints. I filled in the pink and brown, and then added black outlines. Then I ironed it, like the bottle of fabric medium said to.

I kind of also want to add some yellow, drippy cheese, but that will have to wait for later.

Shoe Soles

Most shoe soles are so boring. Shoes that are not athletic or used in slippery conditions should have nifty treads on the soles. I drew a few treads that I thought would be more interesting than the usual lines, triangles, and rectangles. I added some circles and spirals because I read that they are the best shape to shed water and make soles less slick. I may try and make some for a pair of old shoes.

I have no idea what my eyebrows look like.

Not long ago I had an epiphany. I realized that I have no idea what my eyebrows actually look like. I had been trying to grow them out for awhile but I was afraid of wayward strays sticking out in random directions.

When bushier eyebrows started to become trendy I figured that I should go ahead and try to grow mine as well but I was honestly terrified. I feel like I am one of the people in this world that is blessed/cursed with a ton of eyebrow hair. I wonder how many people actually have way more eyebrow hair than they allow?

When my life became a bit busier I discovered that my eyebrows actually have their own shape if I let them grow. I am still not entirely sure what that shape is but it has been a rather fascinating process. I will tame them a bit once I figure it out but for now I am just letting them go.

As young as 8 years old I began borrowing my Mom's tweezers to make my eyebrows look how I wanted. I wanted pencil thin eyebrows like Christina Aguilera. I felt like a hairy freak. Little did I know that it was the beginning of a lifelong eyebrow shape experimentation journey. One that I was never very sure of.

When I got married my makeup artist/ friend told me that I should grow my brows out. She mentioned that I have lovely arches and felt that my eyebrows would look stunning if I let them grow a bit. I am sure that she didn't want me to stop tweezing them entirely but that is what I am working towards now. I seriously want to know what they will look like if they remain untouched. I am finally curious enough that I will bear through any potential strangeness along the way.

I imagine that growing out your brows feels a lot like growing out your armpit hair. It is a wild feeling. I feel like I am wandering back to my Scandinavian roots. I imagine that Vikings had big eyebrows too; I can't imagine that they would shave or tweeze them.

For the most part I have been absolutely loving it. I have found that my eyebrows actually behave better when I let them grow out. The hairs stick together instead of sticking straight out for the most part. I don't need to line them because they are substantial enough on their own.

I am starting to wonder what I was so scared about in the first place. So far no one has said, "My, what big eyebrows you have!" Apparently it is much less distracting than that time when I chopped off all my hair.

Wishing you all a wonderful week!

Adam Lippes for Target is still here!

Adam Lippes for Target launched September 27th. My store still has some pieces left and so does target.com! I love the plaid but didn't find anything that I really need to have. Good for me though because Black Friday is right around the corner and I need to start saving.

Here are some of the pieces that you may still be able to find:

I think these jackets are so cool but they definitely do not flatter my curves. If I had a different body type I'd rock them though.

Classic dress.

I wish these bags were real shearling, that would be awesome! I usually don't buy faux leather anymore but the backpack is dope.

So cute I just worry that they would hurt my feet. Anyone else find that cheap flats are just as painful as pointy heels?

The melamine tray set on the top shelf here is seriously tempting. It would be so cute for Serving Christmas cookies and appetizers! I'm just not sure about melamine.

The sleeveless sweater here is really cute but I'm not a fan of the flaps.

The big square plaid serving plate is really neat, but I am not sure what to use it for since its bumpy. Kind of a weird serving surface.

This dog treat canister is so cute that I seriously thought about buying it to use for a cookie jar. The red plaid next to it is actually a pet bed. Perfect to match Christmas decor!

I almost bought this sweater but then decided that it was too frumpy. The sleeves are so long which I normally like but it was a bit much. Then I found out that it is a men's sweater so it makes sense that it was extra giant haha.

I didn't get anything but I may go back and try the dress and the blue plaid blouse on. I love them but I have no idea what they will look like on me since they are so boxy. Could be super cute or just awful.

Hope that your week is going well!
